Ande and I walked together every day. One of our favorite destinations was at the top of this littlest hill, where a well-weathered platform stood for people to sit and look at the pond. We walked that green trail many times. One spring day, in 2023, on a whim, I took a photo of our shadows communing. A girl and her dog.
Ande died in September 2024. I tried to keep walking every day. Every route is covered in her paw prints. A month into time without Ande, I came to the hilltop and the light was good enough and I took another photo. As I took it, I focused on my shadow and did not notice the moon in the sky, a coincidental timing of rocks in space, a reminder that I can choose to think of her as still leaving paw prints beside me.

I love your photographs of shadows. That said, I am so sorry that you lost your furry walking companion; I am sure it still feels so awkward sometimes to go out walking and taking pictures without them.
A portrait explaining more than love.
